Menapia Receives UK CAA Approval for high altitude Beyond Visual Line of Sight Operations

Menapia, a leading provider of weather monitoring solutions, has received approval from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations for their MetSprite wxUAS. This approval comes after a year of dedicated hard work by their team, led by Chief Airspace Officer Peter Mooney, who developed the Operating Safety Case.

This summer, Menapia will be operating as part of a field campaign in collaboration with the University of Leeds, University of Reading, University of Manchester, Imperial College London, and the Met Office. WOEST (WesCon Observing the Evolving Structures of Turbulence) is an exciting project that aims to improve convective weather models and presents a great opportunity for Menapia to demonstrate MetSprite as an effective and capable atmospheric monitoring system. Their BVLOS approval allows them to fly up to 2 km above ground level to collect valuable atmospheric data.

"We are thrilled that the CAA has deemed our operations safe and compliant," said Peter Mooney, Chief Airspace Officer at Menapia. "This approval is a testament to the hard work our team has put in to develop a world-class weather monitoring system."

Menapia looks forward to sharing the progress and data from this campaign publicly, alongside MetSprite observing accuracy and validation results. Both will be presented at the ISARRA conference in Bergen in August and at the Meteorological Technology Expo in Geneva in October.
