The MetSprite Platform

Delivering precise, adaptable, routine atmospheric data by leveraging advanced weather drones

A Transformative Atmospheric Observation System

Accessing accurate and reliable meteorological data is a constant challenge, especially when it comes to capturing high-resolution, real-time data in complex environments. Plus, to leverage weather drones, it takes a team of experts to overcome the technological constraints and obtain airspace safety authorisation.

The MetSprite Platform is a groundbreaking service that bridges this gap. We tackle the challenges of deploying advanced weather drones to ensure the delivery of precise, adaptable, routine atmospheric data to enhance weather forecasts and support advanced research.

Unlike traditional methods, the MetSprite Platform goes beyond improving existing data collection techniques. It unlocks new possibilities, offering researchers and meteorologists the tools to explore uncharted areas of atmospheric science.

Whether deployed as individual nodes or as part of a coordinated network, the MetSprite Platform provides unparalleled flexibility for both short-term missions and sustained, long-term operations. By solving for wxUAS at a network scale, we leverage our combined airspace permissions across countries, and many to one system supervision, to both simplify data collection whilst simultaneously reducing costs.

Our adaptable drone systems can be equipped with a wide range of sensors, tailored to meet specific observational needs. Scalable and deployable as networks, they offer flexible long term coverage for any region or research requirement.

MetSprite WxUAS

Our flagship drone, the MetSprite WxUAS Platform, is specifically engineered for atmospheric profiling. Intended for long term use in harsh environments, high altitudes, and with adaptable sensor integration capabilites.

  • MetSprite is a cutting-edge WxUAS specifically engineered for vertical atmospheric profiling. This robust flying sensor suite is designed to operate efficiently at altitudes up to 6 km in challenging weather conditions. Its unique aerodynamic design and advanced flight control algorithms maximise data collection efficiency.

MetSprite's endurance and stability enable it to capture high-resolution atmospheric data throughout the boundary layer and beyond, providing unprecedented data resolution.

With its ability to perform multiple profiles per day and operate in remote locations, MetSprite represents a paradigm shift in atmospheric data collection capabilities.

  • MetSprite is a proven BVLOS system

    • Flight permissions upto 6km AMSL while remotely operated from our UK HQ

  • MetSprite is equipped with high-accuracy onboard sensors for measuring essential meteorological variables. These sensors are rigorously validated and calibrated to National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) standards, ensuring data reliability and accuracy. Our measurements meet or exceed the World Meteorological Organization's (WMO) Observing Systems Capability Analysis and Review Tool (OSCAR) thresholds, with temperature and wind measurements reaching the 'goal' level and humidity measurements achieving the 'breakthrough' level. This adherence to international standards guarantees that MetSprite delivers research-grade atmospheric data.

  • MetSprite's innovative design allows for seamless integration of custom sensors to meet diverse research needs. Its modifiable 3D-printed airframe, coupled with high-performance onboard computation capabilities, provides a versatile platform for sensor expansion. Multiple standardised power and data interfaces throughout the drone enable easy connection and operation of additional instruments. This flexibility allows customers to tailor MetSprite's capabilities to specific project requirements, expanding the scope of atmospheric data collection.
